Stroud FM is a community radio station - that is, ordinary members of the public are let loose on air, after they’ve been trained, to play an eclectic mix of music and cover the news and views of the Five Valleys.  All its presenters are volunteers, as is most of the staff who keeps it ticking over.

We broadcast twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. It has a breakfast show and a drive time programme that reflects local news and events.  It also has specialist music programmes that include prog rock, world, urban, Cajun, country and indie. You name it, and we probably play it. We have, on average around 60 presenters.

How do you get on air?

We run radio courses and broadcast to the general public. We have also trained people from more marginalised groups, such as single mothers, ex-offenders, recovering addicts, long-term unemployed and other vulnerable groups. We have seen people transformed as we have boosted their skills and confidence. Our work has been recognised with awards from the Prince’s Trust and Stroud Town Council. How are we funded?

Grants, advertisers, running training courses, fundraising events and donations. In these tough times, we need all the help we can get in order to keep on going, so any support you can give is gratefully received.  Our advertising rates are modest and you get promoted on air and on our website.
